'Beyond the still' competition by Canon

"Introducing the first user-generated HD Video Contest where photographers become filmmakers, and we all see beyond the still. To kick off the contest, Canon asked photographer, Vincent Laforet, to interpret what story lives beyond this still and to tell that story with the new Canon EOS 7D. His will be the first chapter of seven, each ending with a still photograph for the next aspiring filmmaker to interpret. Posing the question to everyone, what do you see beyond the still?"

Chase Jarvis Live Broadcast - afters

Well what an event! It started by running through all the setting up of the studio, models, make-up, shooting etc. The online chat area and twitter (#jclive) was a buzz with questions constantly which Chase or the other members of the team answered when possible from 'what f are you shooting at?' to questions about software and post-production. At the peak there were around 2000 viewing the live broadcast online from all over the world. I think Chase and all involved need a pat on the back for letting so many people into their studio and giving as much FREE practical advice as possible. I have to say it became addictive and hard to pull yourself away from the screen in case you missed something (now where's that take-away menu). There will be a recording of the event on the website soon so I've heard as well.

Massive thanks again to Chase and all the team (and band) for a thoroughly entertaining, informative and FREE event. I really hope you, and the team, do it again soon. I raise my
glass to you.

So...can you kick ass in 6 frames???

Film magazine 'Little White Lies' has just launched a really creative and interesting creative brief:

Re-imagine your favourite film as a six frame comic book story. The best mini-strips will then be featured in the next issue of Creative Review. Upcoming release, Kick Ass, will be the next 'cover' film for the magazine which is based on Mark Millar's comic book series. Little White Lies are asking creative types to come up with a comic strip of a favourite film (a seriously condensed version of only 6 frames!). You can download the template for the strip as a JPG, PSD, or PDF file from the link below..

LWL will need entries in by 6.00pm on Friday 12th February 2010.
"Be creative – be awesome – blow our minds," say the LWL crew. "The best entry will make a full page in the front of the issue, while all the rest of our favourite entries will be made into a special 16 page digital edition of LWLies."

For the full story and T&C's see the Creative Review website. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the wacky, mind blowing ideas that can be created in only 6 frames (now that's a tight brief).
